Holiday Gift Ideas 2011

December 14, 2011 By Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free

Have you already finished all of your Christmas Shopping? Or are you like me and have yet to begin? Ooops…

Either way, here are some fun Gift Ideas for those on your shopping list. (Or you can give them to me because I know I’ll like these!)

For the Coffee-Drinker:

Fill a cute mug with your favorite coffee beans. $5-$10.

For the Foodie:

Engraved Spoons by Wooden Hive. I would love one of these with “Peanut Butter” imprinted on it! Under $10.

For the Chef:

Ceramic Measuring Spoons. This is from Crate and Barrel, but they can be found at many different cooking stores. Under $10.

For the Chef-Wannabe:

Love this Tea-and-Crumpets Apron from Anthropologie. $32.

For the Health-Conscious:

od-3

The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. $12-$18. Explores food in all forms. From manufacturing and processing to scavenging.

For the Philosopher:

Uncommon Friends by James Newton. Five famous men and their friendship. My favorite book.

For the College Student:

I adore my magic bullet and use it just about every day for smoothies, oat flour, and fudge balls. It is very small and portable. I believe mine was bought at costco for under $50.

For the Environmentalist:

Reusable, Glass Straws. I have yet to use one of these, but I love that they aren’t made from plastic and come in different shapes. $6-$15 each.

For Everyone:

Healthy, homemade goodies! I’ll do a different post with homemade treat ideas in the next couple days.

THOUGHT-PROVOKING, MIND-PRODDING QUESTION OF THE DAY:

What’s on your wish list this year?

I need a new digital camera this year. Any suggestions???

P.S. Don’t forget to enter the OXO Egg Beater Giveaway!

I NEED THAT SPOON! but i want it for me!! i couldn’t imagine being able to have it and wrap it up for someone else, as horrible and greedy as that sounds. They always come out with the coolest things. I like your idea of having one engraved with “Peanut Butter” hmmm or even “Spoonful of Sugar fFree” would be adorable!! <3

    xoxo <3

all of these gifts are incredibly accurate! The problem is, I want every single one of them… so does that make me a “coffee drinker-foodie-chef-chef wannabe-health conscious-philosopher-environmentally friendly-college student”?

well yes, that does seem fairly accurate.

I really enjoy your blog…so I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt when you recommend the book Uncommon Friends. I’m hoping that you are unaware that the friends in the book are all rabid anti-Semites (as is the author). This is well-established but I’m including some examples below:

-Ford & Firestone: Ford’s newspaper (supported by Firestone), The Dearborn Independent, published The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which was discredited by The Times of London as a forgery during the Independent’s publishing run. The American Jewish Historical Society described the ideas as “anti-immigrant, anti-labor, anti-liquor, and anti-Semitic.”
-Edison: His Jewish engineers had to hide their religion or he would fire them.
-Carrel: He was a regent for the French Foundation for the Study of Human Problems during the Nazi occupation of Vichy France which implemented the eugenics policies there; his association with the Foundation led to allegations of collaborating with the Nazis.
-Lindbergh: Please. Famously anti-Semitic and a huge Hitler supporter. Check out: http://www.pbs.org/perilousfight/social/antisemitism/

While you are free to enjoy this book…I’m somewhat surprised that you would recommend it to others. Please reconsider.

    Thanks

I’m sorry that I might have offended you by recommending this book. I must say that I was completely ignorant of this fact, and they never mentioned or suggested anything of this sort in the book. I still believe it is a very inspirational story because it explores the lives of 5 extremely talented and successful men and their friendship together. I enjoyed it and still believe it is a great, inspirational book. Again, Sorry that I might have offended you with this.

Those imprinted spoons are really neat! I’ve seen stainless steel drinking straws that made it on my wish list. I also want a Champion juicer! 🙂
