Welcome to Day 5 of the Summer Kick-Off Challenge!
We are halfway there! Wow! Can you believe how fast this challenge is going? At least for me it is, maybe it is extremely slow for you?
In my opinion, eating sugar is a habit most people have. Yes, they may crave it when they are tired or hungry, but it is also something most may have programmed into their eating schedule. Perhaps they have coffee with sugar every morning, and they reach for dessert automatically after dinner. I’m not saying this is a terrible thing to do, but if you want to break that habit, sometimes you have to force yourself out of the habit. It might take 10 days or even a month to break that habit. Then you won’t find yourself reaching for sugar at those certain times of day because you don’t feel like you have to have it.
Here is today’s sample menu:
Breakfast: Flourless Berry Puffed Pancake. Vegan Option: Baked Banana Oatmeal
Lunch: Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Apples and Pecans
Snack: A Fluffy Banana Chocolate Chip Cookie smeared with your favorite nut butter (in my case, peanut butter!).
Dinner: Quiche with Brown Rice Crust. Vegan Option: Brown Rice Stir Fry
Dessert: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites
Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:
Do you find that you eat sugar out of habit at certain times of day?

Hm, I’m not sure if I eat it at a certain time of day. I’m mostly sugar-free anyway, even though I’m not particularly trying to be. I got into the habit of always eating something sugary after my evening meal, but I realized it was getting to be a habit so … well, I stopped!
I made your High Protein Chocolate Chip Cookies a couple of days ago, I can’t believe how delicious they are! So simple but so healthful and tasty – my mum loves them too! I think I might make them again and throw some oats, raisins and maybe walnuts in, yum 😉 Thank you Alex! 🙂

I dont really find myself wanting sugar. Honestly, anything too sweet makes me sick in the stomach. Maybe because I started eating more naturally and more healthy that just the thought of eating anything sweet with sugar like a small piece of candy or whatever gross me out haha. If I was to go to a bday party or whatever, I would eat the piece of cake they over me but I never finish it because its too much for me =S However, I do loooove making cookies! I use natural sweeteners like agave and sometimes bananas and I just put very little since the chocolate chips are sweet enough for me. Doesnt bother me at all!

Janice,
Isn’t it amazing how sensitive you become after not eating sugar? It is completely different!

Next sugar free challenge you do, you should have one of the prizes be a package of a recipe you’ve made! I would be sooo all over a package of your cookie crisp cereal.

Sarah,
That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely keep that in mind for next time.

YAY for Peanut Butter Lovers!!! <3
I find that if I cut the sugar out of my breakfast, it helps throughout the rest of the day. I don't have as many sugar cravings and I have more energy. 🙂
