I apologize in advance for the following pictures’ poor quality. My sister borrowed my camera for this week, so I’m taking the pictures with my phone. Not very good quality photos, but trust me when I say the food tastes good!
~This might be my favorite side dish-ever. It is fresh enough for the summer, and hearty enough for the winter. Above all, it is simple to make. Leftovers make great additions to salads.
Serves 8
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage, chopped (any color)
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 1 medium-sized onion, chopped (any color)
- 3 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 Tablespoon oregano
In a saucepan, saute the onions with the olive oil on medium heat. Next, add the tomato, cabbage, vinegar, and oregano. Stir as needed to prevent burning. Cook until the cabbage is golden and soft, about 15 minutes.
Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:
Ketchup or mustard?
I’m a mustard girl all the way! Never have liked ketchup (it is always full of sugar anyway!).

The sauteed cabbage looks delicious! I love just about any recipe that had cabbage. 🙂

That’s a great idea to use tomato slices in place of a bun! I’ll have to try that. =)

BBQ Sauce?
[I used to hate mustard…but have recently begun to have quite the appreciation for it. :)]
Katie @KatieDid says
mustard on everything. I stir fry just about everything in dijon mustard, and I dip everything that I don’t stir fry into it… I love the bun-less burger idea!

LOVE dijon!

Tomato slices in place of bread? I never wouldda thought of that!! Your so creative 😀
I love ketchup. I put it on everythinggggg. but i get the kind thats agave sweetened and it tastes so much better than the groddy high fructose corn syrup stuff.
Ben says
try substituting Coconut oil for olive oil in the cabbage
spoonfulofsugarfree says
Ben,
I have actually made the cabbage with coconut oil, and it tastes very good as well!
sugarcoatedsisters says
Oh man… ketchup if it with fries/sweet potato fries/hash browns.
Mustard (especially spicy brown mustard) if it is with pretty much anything else. Oh and champagne mustard spread on corn on the cob (instead of butter) is the most delicious thing ever.

I love tomatoes!! as in, I would eat them as apples 😀
Lauren @ WWoB says
Awesome idea!! I did the same thing with a chicken salad sandwich – only I used apple rounds as the bread!

Love the use of tomato for a bun – cleaver, innovative and a healthy alternative to sugar laden carbs.
