Dijon Dressing

June 12, 2011 By Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free

Well, it looks like I might start posting everyday now! I really do love to write on my blog, but I cannot write a long post everyday. Somedays I will just pop in and share a picture, some food, or a random thought that pops into my mine. Hehe…Please bear with me… I am out of town (again!), so I don’t know if I will start the everyday postings until I get back, but for now I will share with you my favorite salad dressing I have been using lately.

Dijon Salad Dressing

~This dressing is super easy and can be made in under a minute! Feel free to adjust amounts as needed. Dairy-free, gluten-free, grain-free, nut-free, soy free, vegan, and, of course, sugar-free!

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt and pepper, to taste
Mix and serve over your favorite salad.

Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:

What is your favorite salad dressing?

I am usually just an oil and vinegar lady. Give me some for my salad, and I will be fine! Except yesterday I ordered a salad from Subway, and they forgot to put the dressing on my salad! Dry salad? Gross! Later, I found some mustard and drizzled that on it…

I am usually an oil and vinegar type of gal too, but every once in a while I’ll want to spice things up a little. This salad dressing sounds delicious and simple! I love it!

Usually I just want plain mustard on my salad (I’m odd I know), but that looks delicious, and would be a nice change 🙂
Yay, I love your posts, so I’m glad that I’ll get to see extra posts from you in my google reader xo

I love just oil and vinegar on my salads, sometimes just vinegar! But I like any dressing that is relatively light and flavorful- nothing super thick or creamy, it takes away the flavor of good fresh veggies!

I like to drizzle tahini, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar on my salads. Sometimes I’ll do dijon mustard as well. I keep it simple so I can enjoy the ingredients in the salad, but dry?! EW!!

So many people put sugar in their dijon dressings! I never got it!
My favorite dressings are the creamy variety. I love adding avocado to the blender with spices, vinegar, and some oil and blending it up. They’ll keep in the fridge for a couple of days and have such a unique taste!

Oh yes! Avocado makes the perfect creamer in salad dressings…who needs ranch made with hydrogenated oils?

I love mustard as a base for dressing. It gives it such a tangy flavor that compliments olive oil and honey extremely well :D.

sometimes the only reason i eat salad is to get more mustard in my mouth! 🙂 i’ve been mixing mustard w/ salsa, mustard w/ horseradish, mustard w/ mustard
    you get the drift! 🙂

I love making my own dressings! My grandma also has her own recipe using dijon. So great!

I love making my own dressings! And usually they involve Vegenaise 🙂 but lots of times citrus juices + oil + seasonings.

I make a dressing like that ALL the time! Its so delicious! I love pairing it with beets, feta, and pears!

I usually just put an herb or spice blend all over my salad…perhaps with some nutritional yeast, hummus, or cottage sheese as well. I use weird things like relish and salsa for dressings, too.

This looks just like the recipe I make all the time! I don’t measure anything though; I just toss in whatever amount to taste. It’s a good one!

I am eating basil galore right now and I love a vinaigrette with basil and lemon! (http://resistantnikki.blogspot.com/2011/07/lemon-garlic-basil-vinaigrette.html) I’m also a fan of pesto on my salad sometimes.

That salad with the quinoa looks delicious!

Love your recipes! I like Balsamic Vinegar, but I thought it had sugar in it, so I stopped using it. Is fruit sugar okay during this challenge?

      Suzy,

Good quality balsamics do not contain added sugar-yay! Please refer back to the Challenge Homepage post, there is a “FAQ” section on that page that answers your question on fruit.

There would be sugar in this if you are using dijon mustard bought from a shop pre made. So this is not sugar free as suggested

      David,

The dijon mustards I buy do not contain sugar. Different brands may have sugar, though. The best way to know is just check labels or make your own!

Yeah fair call, i did find a sugar free mustard after i posted the comment and made the yummy dressing above and have made a few different ones since, but some people may go out and buy some of the ingredients in some of the recipes without even checking the ingredients list on the jars and assume they would be sugar free (mainly because you are promoting sugar free recipes and would take your word as gospel because you are using it as an ingredient in your recipes) unfortunately sugar is in soooooo many unsuspecting items. Ps love your recipes. 🙂
