Quick Vegan Milkshake

May 11, 2011 By Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free

Hello Everyone!

I am still on the road, but here is a great, quick Vegan milkshake that tastes creamy and rich. I have posted this recipe before on a guest post on Whole Wheat or Bust, but here it is again for those of you who missed it.

Healthy Vegan Chocolate Milkshake

~This milkshake is dairy-free, sugar-free, vegan, and is a wonderful treat for summer!

Serves 1

  • 1/3 cup raw cashews
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

First, blend the cashews with equal parts water until it is smooth and makes a thick nut milk. Then, add banana, cocoa powder, and vanilla (if using), and blend until smooth. Add more water to create desired consistency. (I like my milkshakes nice and thick, so I don’t usually add much more water.) Enjoy!

Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:

What is your favorite milkshake flavor?

Right now, I LOVE Katie’s Chocolate Chip Mint Milkshake.  I am the BIGGEST fan of chocolate mint-combo.

    Awwwwww! Love u!

And now I need to try YOUR milkshake!

I tried putting cashews in a raw milkshake once… but lol it was a while ago and I didn’t know you’re supposed to soak them first! 😕

dude this sounds amazing! so simple and wholesome. I went through a year where almost all I’d eat was cashews–but this was a long time ago. hehe 😛

This looks amazing! I love the ease and simplicity of it! And the ingredients are bangin! Cashews make the best vegan substitute for cream…so I am guessing this is amazingly creamy!

do you soak them first or just throw them in? I must try this, it sounds so decadent!

Either way is fine! Soaking them makes them softer-which is better if your blender doesn’t take hard stuff.

YUM! That looks decadent! I’d have never thought of blending up nuts as your base! Since peanut butter milkshakes are my fav, I really ought to give that a whirl!

    Have a great trip!

mmmm <3 This is how I make my milkshake too! Often I use brazilian nuts in place of the cashews, which is really gooD!

I am a chocolate mint lover too. I use mint extract like the recipe you linked too. It’s so good. The frozen spinach is a great addition. Do you make smoothies on the road? If so curious what you use.

No, I usually don’t make smoothies on the road. I have seen others do it, though. If I were to do it, I would bring my magic bullet, a whole bunch of bananas, and maybe some cocoa powder protein powder? I don’t know….It would be interesting to try, though!
