Call me old fashioned…

May 28, 2010 By Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free

But I wanted a good old egg sandwich for breakfast this morning:

A whole wheat english muffin, egg, and ham. Seasoned with….wait for it…..Salt and Pepper! (Oh yeah, didn’t see that comin did ya?) I remember when our family would go traveling, and we would stop at McDonald’s for breakfast (I can’t even imagine doing that now! Especially after reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollen. VERY good book-I highly recommend it!). I would always get the Egg McMuffin and a glass of orange juice. Those were the good ol’ days-no worries in the world.

Maybe my craving for an egg sandwich came from last nights dinner-goulash! Oh the delicious (brown rice) noodles entangled with the (grass-fed, organic) ground beef and tomatoes (and carrots..). Sorry guys, no picture because I was too busy shoveling down my throat. Believe me, though, it was good!

All of this homestyle cooking, you think that I’d want to pack myself a pb&j for lunch! Nope, I had this delicious bowl instead:

I totally just threw a bunch of stuff into a cast-iron skillet and cooked over medium heat. Green peas, red peppers, water chestnuts, artichoke hearts, spinach, onions, kidney beans, leftover rice, sesame seeds, soy sauce, and black pepper. Whew! What a list! I do this a lot for lunch, though. Throw a bunch of yummy stuff into a pot and hope for the best!

On another note, Chocolate Covered Katie is having a giveaway! Yay! In honor of Hug a Fat month, she is giving away a few jars of yummy, coconut, deliciousness.I LOVE coconut butter and oil! It can be used in these Butter Cups or in this Cheesecake. So, check out her website, and you might be a lucky winner!              http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/

Thought-provoking, mind-prodding question of the day:

Do you ever feel like having good old-fashioned food? Is it something your mom or grandma, exc, used to make? If you have any recipes, I would be happy to hear about them!

P.S. Check out my new Recipes page found in the upper right-hand corner!
